I bought the TroughPump to help empty and clean our cattle troughs. Recently, a heavy rain filled up our pool’s overflow, and I figured I’d try the TroughPump on that instead. Our electric pool pump normally takes a day to clear it, and I’ve burned out a couple of them from forgetting to shut them off in time.
I hooked up the TroughPump with my 5/8″, 50 ft hose, and it moved water just “ok”. Curious if I could do better, I switched to my 3/4″, 50 ft hose and got at least double the flow. I was impressed, and without a hose it seemed to flow even more!
At about half the price of my electric pool pump, the TroughPump did a day long job in under 10 minutes. I never knew I needed one, but now I don’t think I can go without it. Make sure to put your drill in high and in reverse or you will be sitting there wondering what you did wrong.

I’m not much of a horse guy, so when my wife tasked me with cleaning out her horse’s trough I didn’t think much of it. After an hour of bucketing out enough water to tip the darn thing over, I decided to work smarter-not-harder. Finding this pump was a life saver! Even I can use a drill (once I figure out which way it needs to spin…). I still tell my wife I bucket the water out so I can get an extra 20 minutes to myself.
